1.  EU FP7 Micro-FAST Project Special Session

EU Micro-FAST project is an EU “Factory-of-the-Future” project, executed by a consortium of 18 partners. The aim of the project is to develop a FAST forming-process and production system for high-throughput, highly flexible and cost-efficient volume production of miniaturised components made of a wide range of materials. Addressing forming of difficult-to-cut and difficult-to-form materials which are used in special environment such as hard metal alloys and ceramic materials, an innovative process, tooling and machine-system are being developed, supported with advanced modelling techniques and advanced materials technology. The proposed session will be presenting latest results concerning scientific aspects of the project’s research and technology development by the project partners.

2.  EU FP7 LoCoLite Project Special Session

With 15 EU partners assembled, EU LoCoLite project consortium is being developing “an industrial system enabling the use of a patented, lab-proven materials processing technology for low cost forming of lightweight structures for transportation industries”. Focusing on the hot-stamping of sheet and plate metal parts for transport applications, a series of processing, tooling and machine-system solutions are being developed, supported with advanced modelling techniques and software, to achieve project’s objectives. The proposed session will be presenting latest results concerning scientific aspects of the project’s research and technology development by the project partners.

3. Special Session on “Microforming and Nanoforming”

The scope of the session is to cover development aspects of microforming and nanoforming, including but not limited to basic research, forming process and apparatus developments, evaluation and applications of miniature/micro parts.  The session intends to address new understanding on the fundamentals of micro and nanoforming, concerning size/scaling effects, modelling, material-deformations and interfacial tribological properties. Besides reporting on the development and enhancement of existing forming processes, presenting novel/new forming processes are especially welcome. Further, describing the development of hardware such as research apparatus and new production equipment is also sought. The product development resulted from advances of micro and nanoforming technology is also covered.

4. Special Session on “Modelling and Simulation on Materials Forming and Product Manufacture"

The special session intends to cover latest development in numerical modelling and simulation relating to the analysis of materials forming and product manufacture. Besides reporting on general theory, models and numeric algorithms, the session particularly seeks contributions from the areas of the modelling of non-conventional metal materials and composites (used in forming), new forming processes, modelling of materials and products at the micro- and nano-scale as well as multiscale modelling, prediction of tool damages and tool life, characterisation of machine/system behaviours, etc. Modelling addressing material/product life-cycle state/behaviours is also sought.

5. Special Session on "Hydroforming"

The session pertains to contributions that represent latest developments in the field of hydroforming of tubes, profiles and sheet metals, and intends to cover both results from fundamental research and practical applications. It invites contributions that are concerned with development of new hydroforming processes, improvement of existing processes, enhancement of hydroforming by process integrations as well as with advances in the design of semi-finished products and manufacturing equipment. Presenting new development of individual parts of the overall process chain for hydroforming production is also welcome.

6. Special Session on “EU Marie Curie IRSES MatProFuture”

MatProFuture (New Material Processing Technologies for Sustainable Future, FP7-PEOPLE-2012-IRSES-318968) is an EU FP7 Marie Curie IRSES project currently involving 7 EU and international partners with more institutions to participate. The aim of the project is to strengthen international research collaboration and partnerships through staff exchange and secondment between EU and international countries in the field of new material processing technologies. In the proposed session, MatProFuture partners will present their current work in new sheet forming processes, precision forging, integrated forming and joining, novel spinning and hydroforming.
